Sub Floor Specification Tips to Ensure Leveling
6/8/2012
Below is a checklist to ensure leveling in sub floor specification:
- Carpet and tile can disguise sub floor unevenness
- Hardwood flooring highlights the unevenness
- Rule of thumb: 3/16 inch over 10-feet is typically level enough
- Specify re-screw the plywood sub floor first
- Shimming material over plywood can be 1/8 or 1/4 inches
- Floating floors must have an extremely level floor
- Specify cement-based, self-leveling compounds over concrete
- Leveling compound must be dry before wood gets to the site
